| Wow... I can't believe I'm making an update on my xanga after all this time. Does anyone else find it pretty damn difficult to navigate this new layout? It feels like they added a lot of useless fluff to try to keep things fresh, but they forget that sometimes simple is better. I'd imagine that the confusion is one of the things that kind of turn people off when they think about returning to xanga. Good thing I found the link to view all this stuff in the "classic" mode.
But anyways... What have I been up to lately? I've been studying to become certified as a licensed professional engineer. It's kinda like the engineer's equivalent of the BAR exam, I suppose. They say that the average person that passes studies about 300 hours for the test, so since near the beginning of the year I've been juggling studying, work, eating, and sleeping while resisting urges to bang my head against the wall. (i just noticed that there's a correlation between me studying for tests and making xanga blogs...)
Speaking of work, I got to fly out to Utah late last week and spend the night in one of the lab homes that I get to run experiments in. The car rental company gave us a Chevy Impala. After getting back from dinner, my coworker and I were toggling through the menus, and we chose to reset the compass. This is what the car told us to do....

Haha, wtf? Anyways, the scenery was actually pretty nice. It was snowing when we first got there, but the next day was only partly cloudy so the visibility got a whole lot better. I included pictures for your viewing pleasure, exclusively here and not on facebook!

 view from the master bedroom
view from one of the bedrooms
view from the previous bedroom but panned over
 view from the backyard
In two of the pictures from the non-master bedroom, you'll see a couple of plateaus... it was actually originally a mountain, but people mined it til it's what you see now. There was this one other shot of the scenery that was pretty amazing... but I never took a picture of it cuz it required me standing in the middle of traffic. Maybe on my next trip out though!

| Ever had a dream where when you wake up, you're totally pissed off about what happened? So last night, the scenario was that it was like a picnic day sorta thing, and a booth was giving out apple pie, coffee, and a cookie, and it was sponsored by Starbucks and Nestle. I was one of the first in line, and some dude gave me a cup of coffee, but then I also asked for pie and a cookie. He was saying something about how it'll get hectic once the pie and cookies are given away, so he'll give it to his associate to meet me in the lounge (don't ask me which lounge, because i have no clue). So I wait at this lounge, but he never shows up. I was a little peeved because I really wanted pie and cookie, so I went to Starbucks to get another cup of coffee (again, don't ask.) So when I was there, I saw the dude who told me he'll get me the stuff. I ask him what happened, and then at first he denies ever being there, and then he finally shows me some slip of paper saying that my email address had been noted, because I was in violation of harrassment. There was also a fee of $2,460.57, which I thought was ridiculous. But anyways, so I tried to talk to his manager, who was at the cash register getting change for another customer. After I explain myself, the manager hella mugs me, and the dude butts in, saying "Can't you see that he's busy??!?" After that, I woke up feeling pissed.
What would your Freudian analysis be of this dream?

| So the other day, when I was at my cousin's place... my brother was telling me about how our 8 year old niece tried to be all grown up and trim her eyebrows. But then, being so young and innocent, instead of using shaving cream, she used toothpaste. And instead of making her eyebrows look thinner, she ended up shaving the whole outer half of it. Visual depiction is presented here:
So when my niece arrives, half of her face is covered up by her hair, a la The Ring. But my cousin (who sometimes acts like an ass) goes up to her, moves her hair out of the way, and goes "OH DAYAMMMMM"
Poor girl... next week is supposed to be picture day too. | | |
| So the quarter-century's coming up in a little bit... I remember last year, I was kinda moody during this time. And for this year, there's also the whole post-grad thing. So if you see me all grumpy or emo, kick me in the shins or something to snap me out of it.
But anyways...
So I'm pretty sure everyone's done this at least once... It's when they retrospect. They look back and think about who and how they were in the past.
Be it 5 or 10 years... More often than not, we usually have some kind of advice we'd like give to past selves.
But here's my question... When you're looking back at this person... Instead of giving advice...
What kind of advice would this person give to back you?
Cuz I mean... the more we grow, the more our perspective changes... And sometimes, we lose sight of what our original aims and motivations were.
Cuz we always try to look at the bigger picture. How it was, how it is, how it will be. But sometimes I think that it's important to look at how it was supposed to be too... Y'feel me?
(... and in case it crossed your minds, no, you can't kick me in the shins.)
On a lighter note, here's some random pictures for your viewing pleasure
